Living History
-
a project within the 4-H Shooting Sports Program
Several options exist to accommodate the interests and skill level of any member in 4-H.
Two popular approaches are:
1. Members create a character from any period in history by researching the time period, developing a persona, and
acquiring a costume for that character. 4-H judging consists of a short interview where the member can share what he/she has learned, either as the historical character (first person), or telling about the historical character (third person) they've
created.
2. Members can choose to explore and develop a specific skill or craft and the tools associated with it to complete the goals of their project. Judging again involves an interview where the member can share what he/she has learned about that skill or craft and the time period they have chosen to research.
4-H members choosing the living history project must have access to a Living History instructor, or attend Living History meetings with a certified instructor... An instructor can become certified by attending a Shooting Sports Instructor Training weekend and completing training in the Living History discipline and youth development.
Anyone interested in doing a Living History project should contact their local extension office
